My Daily Call/Senior Safety Net
A free daily check-in program for seniors or disabled residents living alone. Deputies initiate contact, and if a participant fails to respond as scheduled, a deputy is dispatched to check on their well-being. You can register by calling the Office for the Aging at 518-828-4258.
Project Lifesaver
Project Lifesaver is a rapid response program that uses state of the art technology and specifically trained Deputy Sheriff’s to locate individuals with Autism, Down Syndrome, Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia or other cognitive impairment who have wandered off and may be lost and otherwise in peril. Project Lifesaver clients wear a watch type wrist band transmitter which emits a tracking signal. When a caregiver, parent or guardian reports that someone is missing and may have wandered away, a search team from the Sheriff’s Office responds to the area of last contact. Wrist bands are issued free of charge for those with a qualifying diagnosis.

Columbia County Office for the Aging
The Columbia County Board of Supervisors and the Office for the Aging are committed to assisting our older citizens to remain in their own homes and to actively participate in family and community life. The services described on this site are a range of community-based and home care services. While some individuals need assistance for only a short period of time, others become increasingly frail and will require aid on a regular, ongoing basis. Staff can help you select the most appropriate type of assistance to meet your individual needs and will arrange and authorize those services you decide upon.

Eddy Alzheimer’s Services and St. Peter’s Health Partners
There are nearly 400,000 New Yorkers living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Eddy Alzheimer’s Services is primarily funded through the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Initiative, a New York state grant funded effort which seeks to alleviate the financial and emotional burden placed on these caregivers.
Together Eddy Alzheimer’s Services and its grant partner the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York, provide a wide range of free supportive services for caregivers. These include Caregiver Assessment, Education, Support Groups, Respite and Care Teams. All services are aimed at helping support the caregiver in their caregiving journey.
Eddy Alzheimer’s also provides support for individuals living alone, such as in-home care, adult day programs, transportation, care management services.

Navigators can help you enroll in quality, affordable health insurance through the New York State of Health Marketplace, including Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan. Navigators can also help you apply for financial assistance to reduce the cost of commercial coverage.

Personal Emergency Response Services (PERS)
New York Medicaid covers Personal Emergency Response Services (PERS) for eligible individuals through Managed Long-Term Care (MLTC) plans or Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers. To qualify, an individual must have a physician’s order, a medical/functional need requiring monitoring, and a lack of full-time caregivers in the home. It is suggested that folks reach out to their insurance companies to inquire about whether the plan they have will cover a PERS. Complete an application here:
