New Ancram Town Supervisor Thanks Whole Community

New Ancram Town Supervisor Thanks Whole Community

-In the January 18, 2024 Columbia Paper-

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the voters of the Town of Ancram for electing me the new Town of Ancram Supervisor. There are many people I who wish to thank, most especially those who took time out of their day to be a part of the election process.

We had a record turnout for this election. I wish to thank all of you for being patient, respectful and allowing the process to happen. I am aware that I am stepping into some very big shoes. Mr. Bassin has done an exceptional job for the last 14 years and I take his seat humbly. I plan to continue to build on the strong foundation that has been laid down by him.

I wish to enter this office and move forward with honesty, integrity, financial security and transparency. I am aware that Ancram is divided in much the same way that this country is. What I offer is this; we want Ancram to thrive, we want Ancram to succeed and to be a warm, welcoming, stable home for all of us. And to do this, we need to reach across the aisle, look past our differences and embrace our similarities. I want every resident to know that I am dedicated to serving each one of you.

I want to be as accessible to each of you as possible. If you have an issue or a problem, please tell me about it. If you have a great idea, tell me about it. My office door will always be open and I am just a phone call away. I plan to have monthly coffee meet and greets at our town stores in hopes that by being out in the community on common ground and not behind a desk, town residents will feel freer to express their concerns and ideas.

As President John F. Kennedy so eloquently said, “Let us stand together with renewed confidence in our cause – united in our heritage of the past and hopes of the future.”

Regards to you all.

James MacArthur
