The Ancram Town Court is accepting applications for the position of Court Clerk. The Clerk of Court provides critical administrative and clerical support to the Town Justices, and assists the Court during all courtroom proceedings, both civil and criminal. The position is ideal for an applicant seeking an interesting, varied, part-time position with significant responsibility. The court clerk must attend Court every fourth Wednesday of the month when the court hears cases, approximately 4:30-8:00 pm, and must be available in the court office the other Wednesdays of the month, as needed, for clerical duties, answering phone inquiries, and assisting with trials or hearings scheduled for those dates. Other administrative functions can be performed according to a more flexible schedule. The successful applicant will be joining a staff consisting of one other experienced court clerk, and will be assisting two judges.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare court dockets of cases and maintain court calendar
- Create and file court documents, including sentencing, probation, and release information
- Maintain records of payment for court fines, bail and other fees
- Correspond with attorneys or parties appearing before the Court as required
- Respond to telephone inquiries from the public in a polite and knowledgeable manner
- Provide needed support or assistance to the judge when on the bench or in chambers
Requirements for Applicants
- High school diploma; some college a plus. No legal training necessary.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and other basic applications
- Bookkeeping experience helpful; must be able to create accurate financial reports and file them electronically
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with the public, professional demeanor
- Experience with legal processes and court procedures a plus; however, on-the-job training will be provided.
- Must be able to attend a mandatory full-day training for Court Clerks
- High-degree of confidentiality required
- 4-10 hours per week

Town of Ancram Public Notice – Planning Board Alternate Members: The Ancram Town Board seeks applicants whose primary residence and voting site is in the Town of Ancram to serve on the Ancram Planning Board as alternate members. The term of office is five years. All board member training and other requirements apply to alternate members. Applicants with land use planning experience, familiarity with site plans, engineering and architectural drawings and scales, or experience in agriculture, the construction industry, or the construction design profession, will be given preference. As an alternate, you will attend all Planning Board meetings, which are held on the first Thursday of each month, and you may participate in Planning Board deliberations, but may not vote unless you are designated to replace a regular Planning Board member because of conflicts of interest requiring their recusal. As an alternate, you may be given preferential consideration for appointment to the Planning Board as a regular member in the event of Planning Board member resignations. To be considered for an appointment as an alternate, please send your resume and an email outlining your background and experience in land use planning and zoning to Ancram Town Supervisor Art Bassin at abassin@ancramny.org no later than Saturday, January 21, 2023. NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF TAX ROLL AND WARRANT TAKE NOTICE, that I Monica Cleveland, the undersigned Collector of Taxes of the Town of Ancram, County of Columbia, have duly received the tax roll and warrant for the collection of taxes within the Town of Ancram for the year 2023, and that I will attend the Ancram Town Hall, 1416 County Route 7, in the said Town of Ancram Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s 10:00am to 2:00pm and 9:30 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday’s, during the month of January for the purpose of collecting taxes. TAKE FURTHUR NOTICE, that taxes may be paid on or before January 31, 2023 without charge or interest. On all taxes received after such date, there shall be added interest of 1% if paid on or before February 28, 2023 and an additional 1% for each additional month until such taxes are paid or until the return of unpaid taxes to the county treasurer pursuant to law.
